2025 Honda CR-V Might Get New Powertrain and Transmission

The sixth generation of Honda’s popular SUV came with the 2023 model year. Most of the novelties were evolutionary, considering the status of the previous generation, which was widely recognized as one of the best models in the class. Therefore, the new model features a pretty similar overall layout, with further enhancements in terms of aesthetics, technology, etc. However, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is preparing some big novelties for the near future, for the 2025 Honda CR-V, more precisely.

This will be the third production year of the generation and while that’s too early for a facelift, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is preparing novelties under the hood. It looks like we could see a new powertrain option, along with a new transmission. Other than that, we don’t expect to see substantial changes, though there is always room for minor updates, such as new color options and standard features. Other than that, things should remain the same.

2025 Honda CR-V New Powertrain Rumored

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2025 Honda CR-V could get some interesting updates under the hood. Allegedly, the company is working on a new electrified version. This time, we would see a plug-in hybrid setup, which would join the current lineup. At this point, the details are still unavailable but most sources suggest that the system would be based on a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which would come coupled with one or more electric motors, for a combined output that would go over 300 horsepower. Also, we would expect to see decent fuel economy.

The rest of the powertrain lineup would carry on in the same way but we expect to see another big change under the hood. Namely, the current model is great in many ways but its CVT gearbox feels a little bit uninspiring. That’s why we are eagerly waiting to see if this rumor will come true or not. Allegedly, the current gearbox will be replaced with a classic automatic transmission with a torque converter and that would most likely be a 10-speed unit, the same one that’s used in the new Passport.

Base models would continue with a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four that puts out around 190 horsepower, while the self-charging hybrid would be offered too, with a combined output of 204 horsepower.

2025 Honda CR-V Design

As we’ve just mentioned, it is still early for a facelift, so the overall design will remain the same. The 2025 Honda CR-V will continue with the same design that was recently presented, which brought a more mature look, bolder and more elegant. Of course, we won’t exclude the possibility to see minor updates, such as new color options, or maybe a new appearance package.

The mechanical aspect of the vehicle will remain the same, with the chassis and suspension setup that brought minor enhancements with the recent redesign. Driving manners are kinda familiar, whereas the CR-V balances comfort and athleticism in a nice fashion.

Interior

The same thing is with the interior design, which will carry on in the same way, but could get a few updates, in terms of new color schemes and similar things. The overall layout will certainly remain the same, based on the company’s latest aesthetical approach, which can also be seen in the new Civic and Accord. The dashboard features a classic design, with a clean design and a couple of fancy details. The materials are nice, and everything feels assembled pretty well.

Besides very good build quality, this SUV also offers a pretty spacious cabin, with two very comfortable rows of seats. The front seats are well-shaped and offer great support and typically for Honda Cars, the driving position is excellent. The rear seats are also very spacious and accommodate adults with ease. Finally, there is the generous cargo area, with 39.3 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 76.5 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

Of course, novelties in terms of standard and available features are also expected, though minor tweaks only. Therefore, most things should remain the same as in the current model, which comes standard with goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, remote keyless entry and a moonroof.

The additions would come from the current list of options, and that may refer to things like a 9-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, two second-row USB ports, wireless device charging, an eight-speaker audio system, a universal garage-door opener etc.

2025 Honda CR-V Release Date and Price

We expect to see the 2025 Honda CR-V sometime in the second half of 2024. We don’t expect bigger changes in terms of price, so base versions should go around 30.000 dollars.
