The automotive world is changing and just like other manufacturers, Honda is adapting to the new circumstances in its own way. Of course, this refers to the luxury sub-brand as well. Still, Acura uses a little bit more specific approach and from what we can see, it looks like this brand will skip hybrids in the electrification process. Instead, it will turn to EVs directly and the first model is expected already by the end of the next year. It will come as the 2023 Acura ADX, reports say.
The first all-electric vehicle from Acura will be, as you may presume, a crossover. It will compete in the compact segment and from what we know so far, it will share a lot with Honda Prologue. This particularly refers to the drivetrain and battery, which will be developed together with General Motors. The rest of the design will be done by Acura engineers and we expect a lot of things in common with the current Acura lineup.
2023 Acura ADX Design
This will be a brand-new model in Acura’s range and we have really big expectations from it. It will be the brand’s first all-electric vehicle and from what we know so far, many things will be shared with Honda Prologue, another upcoming model from this Japanese manufacturer.
The relationship between the two models will reflect in many ways but the first thing that comes to mind is the chassis design and base layout in a generation. We count on a compact luxury crossover, which will be similarly sized to the RDX, or maybe a bit smaller. Also, we presume that the brand’s current design language will be followed a lot, though there is plenty of room for exclusive details as well.
Interior
On the other hand, details about the interior design are still unavailable. At this point, we can only speculate about the dashboard design and similar things but we presume that the company will use a little bit more modern design approach compared to the RDX and MDX models. In other words, we expect to see a more futuristic approach, with more tech features, screens and similar things.
As we are talking about a compact crossover, it’s easy to get a picture regarding seating configuration and interior space in general. Of course, we count on two rows of seats, where both would be spacious enough to accommodate adults with ease. The cargo area should offer some good numbers too.
2023 Acura ADX Drivetrain, Battery, Performance
As we already mentioned, the 2023 Acura ADX will share a lot of its parts with Honda Prologue and that refers to the drivetrain as well. Honda is currently working on its own battery-electric platform but meanwhile, it will use GM’s battery technology called Ultium. This particularly refers to the battery setup, which should ensure around 300 miles of the all-electric range and all kinds of fast-charging options.
On the other hand, things about electric motors are still unclear. While some sources suggest GM’s electric motors as well, others talk about Honda’s own units. In the first case, we would probably see the same setup as in the Cadillac Lyriq. This would mean an electric motor that puts out 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. In any case, base models will come with an RWD setup, while all-wheel drive may be offered as an option.
2023 Acura ADX Release Date and Price
If we can trust the latest reports, the 2023 Acura ADX will arrive by the end of the next year. When it comes to the price, some sources estimate 55.000 dollars for the base model.
