2024 Honda City Is Getting Mid-Cycle Refresh

With its compact and practical design, which comes in a combination with proven and reliable mechanics, the City is one of the most popular models in markets like India, Malaysia, Thailand etc. Although still great, the current generation would use some updates and that’s why the test mule for the next year wears camouflage. We are about to see a mid-cycle refresh, and from what we know so far, there is a good portion of novelties to come for the 2024 Honda City.

At this point, we can say for sure that the new model is about to get a new styling, but we presume some interior updates are possible as well. On the other hand, we don’t expect to see bigger changes in terms of mechanics. The chassis and suspension setup will remain unchanged, while the same thing is expected with the powertrain, which largely depends on the markets where this small car is offered.

In any case, we expect the updated model to arrive sometime in the second half of the year.

So, what we expect to see is a typical mid-cycle refresh. At this point, the test mule has been on the road with a solid portion of camouflage, so we definitely expect to see styling updates. Most of the camo is at the front, so it’s easy to conclude that this is the area to receive the most changes. We count on a new grille design, along with new headlights, a new bumper etc. We presume some styling solutions could be borrowed from the new generations of Civic and handling. Just like the current version, it will come in two body styles, either as a four-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback.

Of course, we also count on typical mid-cycle refresh tweaks. Some of them are new color options and new wheels design. On the other hand, the mechanical aspect will remain the same. This model rides on a familial Global Small platform and shares a lot of parts with Fit and HR-V. The suspension setup is relatively simple, but the ride quality is actually smooth and comfortable.

Interior

We know for sure these updates will bring styling changes but various sources also suggest changes on the inside. The current model doesn’t look bad at all, though there are some areas with cheap materials. Still, the overall build quality is good and everything is durable enough to serve successfully for a very long time. For the next year, we might see some minor revisions, such as new color schemes and new materials in certain areas. Moreover, we could also see a bigger infotainment screen.

Of course, the seating configuration will remain the same. The 2024 Honda City will come in two familiar body styles, either as a 4-door sedan or a 5-door sedan. Each version is spacious and comfortable enough. The sedan is slightly longer, but the hatchback is more practical when it comes to cargo space.

As mentioned, the next year’s update probably won’t bring any bigger change in terms of the powertrain. Instead, we are about to see familiar powertrain options. The actual offer depends on the market. For example, the Indian-market version is available both in petrol and diesel variants. The petrol engine features 1.5 liters in displacement, with a max output of 120 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. The diesel engine also features 1.5 liters in displacement, with a max output of 98 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque.

In some markets, such as Thailand, this subcompact comes with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which puts out 129 horsepower and 173 Nm of torque. A hybrid version is also available in several markets. That version features a system based on a 1.5-liter engine, with a combined output of 109 horsepower.

The hybrid and all petrol units come paired with a CVT. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine is also available with a six-speed manual, which is the only choice in the diesel version.
