The new generation of the legendary compact car has just been redesigned and the new model is even better than its predecessor. Once again, Honda has the best model in this class but that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing novelties in the near future. Allegedly, the Japanese manufacturer is about to offer a hybrid version in the next year, as the 2024 Honda Civic Hybrid. That model would feature the same powertrain as the European version, and it would be the third powertrain option for the North American market.
The new powertrain would provide excellent fuel economy. Other than that, the hybrid version wouldn’t be much different than the other versions of Civic. We are about to see a car that offers engaging handling, a comfortable ride, a modern cabin, lots of tech features etc. Also, the hatchback version will provide plenty of cargo space.
The 2024 Honda Civic Hybrid should hit the market sometime in the second half of the next year.
2024 Honda Civic Hybrid Powertrain
Of course, the most important aspect of the 2024 Honda Civic Hybrid will be its powertrain. As we already mentioned, the North American version would probably use the same system as the European model. That’s the latest system by Honda, which is based on a familiar 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine. The engine comes coupled with two electric motors, as well as a 72-cell battery. As a result, you get a total output of 181 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. Of course, the power would be sent to the front wheels, via a CVT.
This powertrain will offer a great balance between performance and efficiency and it will join the current lineup that consists of two gasoline engines. The base one is a good-old K20 engine with 158 horsepower, while you can also opt for a 1.5-liter turbo-four with 180 horses. The latter also powers the Si model, which puts out more than 200 horsepower.
2024 Honda Civic Hybrid Design
Other than the powertrain, the 2024 Honda Civic Hybrid won’t feature any bigger differences compared to standard models. You may count on a familiar layout, which came last year. The new-generation Civic brings a more elegant and more mature look. Also, we expect that the Hybrid version will come in both hatchback and sedan body styles on the offer.
Mechanically, the new generation rides on a new platform and once again, this compact car offers an impressive level of athleticism. Thanks to the standard independent rear suspension, the ride is very comfortable at the same time, which is one of the reasons why we consider this car a class leader.
Interior
The same thing is with interior design. Other than the instrument cluster, which will be slightly adapted for the hybrid powertrain, the cabin will look pretty much the same. Therefore, you may count on the same dashboard design, which combines modern and retro elements, providing an elegant look that comes in a combination with the good build quality. There is a lot of attention to detail, while most areas are covered with soft-touch materials.
This is one of the biggest models in the class, so it’s no wonder that the amount of space is pretty generous. Both rows offer plenty of legroom and accommodate adults with ease. When it comes to cargo capacity, the sedan version offers around 16 cubic feet, while the hatchback is way more generous and offers around 25.5 cubic feet of cargo volume.
Features
In terms of standard equipment, we don’t expect to see some significant differences. Therefore, base models should come with things like a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, a USB port, a four-speaker stereo, climate control etc. Among upgrades, expect to find goodies like a 9-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless device charging, an additional front USB port, two rear USB ports, navigation, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, satellite radio, HD Radio, voice recognition, an eight-speaker stereo, a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo, proximity keyless entry, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, a universal garage door opener, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure assist, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, rear-seat reminder etc.
2024 Honda Civic Hybrid Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Honda Civic Hybrid will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023. The starting price should go around 25.000 dollars, while the key competitors should be models like Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Hyundai Ioniq etc.
