Usually considered one of the best models in the class, the current generation of Civic has been around for a couple of years and it still looks very fresh, with attractive aesthetics and more than competent driving characteristics. However, that doesn’t mean that we won’t be seeing novelties in the near future. According to the latest reports, the next year’s model is about to get a new powertrain, and it should be offered in both body styles, including the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan. From what we know so far, Honda plans to offer a hybrid version in North America.
Such a version would certainly make this small sedan even more desirable, but we don’t believe that bigger changes than that could happen. The powertrain update may come but the overall design will remain the same, with familiar pros and cons. Despite the potential powertrain update, the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan probably won’t come much earlier than usual. We still expect to see it sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2024 Honda Civic Sedan Hybrid Powertrain
As we’ve just mentioned, this should be the biggest novelty for the next year. The Japanese carmaker is about to introduce an electrified version of the popular compact car and unlike in Europe, where the hybrid powertrain is available only with a hatchback body style, the North American model will probably include both body styles in the offer.
Honda introduced a new hybrid system, based on a 2.0-liter inline-four, in a combination with two electric motors. The max output goes up to 181 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque and the interesting thing about the new system is that wheels are spun mostly by electric motors, while the gasoline engine engages only under hard acceleration. Most of the time, it works just as a power generator.
2024 Honda Civic Sedan Engines
The rest of the lineup should remain the same. So, there will be two familiar gasoline engines on offer. Starting from the good-old naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four, which puts out 158 horsepower. The engine comes coupled with a CVT and offers decent overall performance.
Still, the optional turbo-four feels more competent. We are talking about a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, which puts out around 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque and offers notably better driving dynamics. It also comes with a CVT.
The 1.5-liter turbo-four is also available in a more powerful variant. That unit is reserved for the Si trim level, which is a sporty variant of this sedan, with 200 horsepower and all kinds of mechanical and aesthetic upgrades. Some of the highlights are upgraded suspension, limited-slip differential etc. Another significant difference is that this version comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
2024 Honda Civic Sedan Design
As we already mentioned, the overall design won’t change. Things will be pretty much the same as in the current model, which is praised for its well-balanced chassis and suspension setup, which offers a fantastic balance between comfort and athleticism. We also like the new aesthetics, which are toned down compared to the previous generation and look way more elegant.
The same thing is with interior design. There should be no bigger changes, so you may count on one of the nicest cabins in the class, characterized by a nice dashboard and pretty good build quality. Moreover, we also like the good amount of tech features, as well as the fact that this is one of the comfiest models in the class. Its long wheelbase ensures plenty of legroom, but rear passengers may have some trouble with the rear headroom.
Trim Levels and Features
We presume that the trim level organization will remain the same, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see some of the trim levels upgraded with new features. In any case, the base Sport model will already come well-equipped. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, automatic climate control, keyless entry, a 7-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker audio system etc.
The first upgrade comes with the EX trim, which brings a turbo-four engine, as well as various convenience features, such as a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, heated mirrors etc.
If you’re looking for a more luxurious variant of the Civic, the Touring trim is the one for you. This version adds a 9-inch infotainment screen, as well as things like an auto-dimming mirrors, leather seats, power-adjustable seats, wireless Apple CarPlay, Bose sound system and many more.
Finally, there is the aforementioned Si, with more power, manual transmission, sports suspension, upgraded brakes, limited-slip differential, performance tires and more.
2024 Honda Civic Sedan Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 25.000 dollars. Details about the hybrid are yet to be announced.
