Acura’s mid-size sedan has just been redesigned and if we consider all the novelties that were introduced, it’s easy to conclude that the 2023 Acura TLX will most likely be a typical carryover model. Simply, the amount of novelties and improvements we’ve seen with the second-generation model is huge. The new generation is far more refined, while the overall look is even more angular and aggressive. Furthermore, there is a couple of pretty capable engine options, which is one of the main reasons why we like this car so much.
Considering that the 2023 Acura TLX is about to represent the third production year of the generation, we presume that the biggest changes will be those in terms of new features. On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same. This mid-size sedan will continue to deliver qualities like composed handling, capable engines, high-quality interior etc. The best thing is that all these amazing things come at a really affordable price.
Still, the TLX isn’t without flaws. We don’t like tight rear seats, while those drivers who prefer comfort and relaxed drive will probably find the ride too firm
2023 Acura TLX Design
Design-wise, the 2023 Acura TLX won’t change much. As we’ve just mentioned, the mid-size sedan has just been redesigned and then this will be the third production year of the generation. The overall layout will certainly remain the same. Once again, this car has a lot of things in common with the legendary Honda Accord. A lot of mechanics are shared, though we have to mention that the new TLX features a notably longer wheelbase, which goes over 113 inches.
What we particularly like about this sedan is the suspension setup, which is on the firm side. While most rivals are all about comfort, this model provides pretty engaging handling and offers a lot of athleticism. The composed handling is definitely one of the strongest points of this car, even in base versions that feature front-wheel drive.
Styling-wise, the new generation follows the brand’s latest design language entirely. The angular look with lots of sharp edges makes this sedan looks fresh and attractive. So, we are pretty sure that the 2023 Acura TLX won’t feature any changes. Still, we won’t exclude the possibility to see updates like new color options and similar things.
The same thing goes for interior design. We don’t expect to see changes, as the new cabin looks pretty impressive. The overall interior quality is at a pretty high level, much higher compared to the previous generation. The materials are really fine, while the build quality is rock solid. Furthermore, we like all those tech features in a combination with numerous physical control, which make this dashboard look very elegant.
The front seats are massive and supportive. Typically for Honda and Acura models, the driving position is excellent, while the outward visibility is pretty decent too. On the other hand, things aren’t that impressive in the second row. There’s less passenger space than you get from rivals like BMW 5 Series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and that’s probably the biggest drawback of this engaging luxury sedan. The cargo area offers around 13.5 cubic feet, which is about average for the class.
2023 Acura TLX Engines
Under the hood, we expect that the 2023 Acura TLX will continue with two familiar powertrain options on the offer. Base versions will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out 272 horsepower. That’s plenty of power and driving dynamics are actually pretty impressive. With this engine, you can hit sixty in less than six seconds and at the same time, fuel economy is pretty good. It goes around 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Of course, the engine comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which also does a pretty fine job. In base versions, it sends power to the front, while the company’s well-known SH-AWD system is optional.
Without any doubt, the base engine will be more than enough for most buyers. For those who are looking for something even peppier, there is the Type S model. This one comes with a 3.0-liter V6. This unit puts out around 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, while the all-wheel-drive system is standard. That’s enough power to provide 0-60 sprints in about 4.5 seconds. This engine also comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
As you may presume, Type S is notably thirstier. You may expect fuel economy that goes around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Although we could see a couple of novelties regarding the standard and available equipment, the base trim level organization and most of the features will remain the same. Therefore, base models will continue with features like 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, heated front seats, simulated leather upholstery, 10.2-inch infotainment screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, 10-speaker audio, Wi-Fi hotspot etc.
The base model also comes with lots of standard safety features. Some of the highlights are goodies like a rearview camera, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, automatic high beams etc.
The Technology trim brings a couple of notable upgrades. For example, there are goodies like 19-inch wheels, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, leather upholstery, navigation system, ambient interior lighting, 13-speaker audio system etc.
For those how are looking for a little bit sportier look at a reasonable price, the A-Spec trim seems like a good choice. This model comes standard with goodies like exterior upgrades, unique color options, aluminum interior inserts, flat-bottom steering wheel, upgraded seats, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a 17-speaker audio system and more.
The Advance trim brings even more exclusive features to the table. For example, you get things like adaptive suspension, upgraded seats with more support, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, premium leather upholstery, head-up display, surround-view camera etc.
Finally, there is the Type S model. Besides the V6 engine, it also comes with goodies like upgraded suspension, 20-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, additional Sport+ driving mode, upgraded steering, sports seats and more.
2023 Acura TLX Release Date and Price
Since there are no significant changes to come, we expect that the 2023 Acura TLX will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2022. We don’t change bigger changes in price either. The current model starts at around 38.800 dollars, while the range-topping Type S model goes around 54.000 dollars.
When it comes to the competition, some of the key rivals would be models like Lexus ES, Jaguar XF, Audi A5 etc.
