2024 Acura Integra Type S: What We Know So Far

A huge number of car enthusiasts still see the old Integra as the best FWD car ever made, so it’s no wonder that the expectations from the new model were huge. The Japanese manufacturer finally revived the nameplate but critics have been mixed so far. The reason probably lays in the fact that, although a great car, the new model simply doesn’t have the old one’s flavor. Still, it’s important to keep in mind that only the base version has been launched and that the high-performance iteration is on the way. That model will come as the 2024 Acura Integra Type S, probably in the second half of the next year.

At this point, there aren’t many details about the new Integra Type S but we are pretty much sure about what we want to see from the new model. Just like the standard Integra shares a lot with the Civic Si, this one will share a lot with the recently-introduced Type R.

So, the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about the relationship with Civic Type R is the engine. There is no room for surprises, as we expect to see the good-old 2.0-liter turbo-four, which has been powered by Civic’s hot-hatch version for three generations. We presume that the power figures will be the same, which would mean around 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Some sources suggest even more power for the Acura iteration.

Of course, we expect to see the 2024 Acura Integra Type S equipped with Honda’s excellent 6-speed manual, but some sources suggest that the new Integra Type S could even further. One of the possibilities is to see a 10-speed automatic transmission as an option, while there are also rumors about a dual-clutch transmission.

Another aspect of this performance car that has been the object of rumors is the drivetrain. The Civic Type R comes with a front-wheel-drive layout, along with a limited-slip differential. On the other hand, the Integra Type S could offer an all-wheel-drive system as an option, to differentiate more from its mainstream relative. If that happens, we have no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer would use its well-known SH-AWD system with torque vectoring, which is arguably one of the best AWD systems around.

Besides engine upgrades, with expect to see modifications in many other aspects. Of course, the chassis and suspension setup are some of the first things that come to mind and, in this aspect, things shouldn’t be much different compared to the sibling from Honda. So, count on notable suspension upgrades compared to the standard Integra, along with other chassis upgrades. Furthermore, we expect to see bigger brake rotors, as well as better tires. Of course, we are thinking of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Of course, we also expect to see various visual changes and styling details that accentuate the model’s performance nature. Still, things probably won’t go crazy like in the case of Civic Type R. We don’t expect to see a massive rear wing but on the other hand, we definitely expect to see things like upgraded bumpers, rear diffusers, three exhaust pipes etc.

Interior upgrades are expected as well. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is the seats, which would offer better side support and nicer materials. The rest of the cabin should also utilize new materials and color schemes. Of course, a uniquely-designed instrument cluster is another thing that comes to mind. On the other hand, the overall cabin layout will remain the same, which means that you may count on very good build quality and excellent ergonomics.

The 2024 Acura Integra Type S will also offer a generous amount of passenger space, thanks to the long wheelbase. Both rows are adult-friendly, with plenty of legroom. Still, the rear-seat headroom is a little bit limited, due to the sloping roof design.
