2024 Honda CR-V: All-Electric Version in Works?

The super-popular compact SUV is getting a full overhaul for the next year and therefore, it would be normal to expect no bigger changes for the 2024 Honda CR-V, which will represent the second production year of the generation. However, some sources suggest a different scenario. It looks like we could see the introduction of a new powertrain option for the second production year, in terms of the all-electric powertrain. Those are just rumors, for now, so make sure to take the following paragraph with a reserve.

On the other hand, the rest of the lineup is expected to remain largely unchanged. The upcoming redesign will bring lots of novelties, starting from the new styling, new interior design, bigger dimensions and many other improvements. Therefore, we expect that the standard version will arrive in a typical time of year, sometime in the last quarter of 2023.

On the other hand, the all-electric version may arrive a little bit earlier.

2024 Honda CR-V Could Go All-Electric

As we’ve just mentioned, the biggest rumor about the 2024 Honda CR-V is electrification. The next generation will carry on with two familiar powertrain options from the current model, while the biggest novelty could happen in the aspect of electrification. Allegedly, the Japanese manufacturer prepares an all-electric CR-V.

Of course, this is just a rumor for now and details are yet to be announced. Still, some sources suggest that the new CR-V would use the same or similar setup to the upcoming Prologue. This means we would see a 100-kWh battery pack, which would ensure more than 300 miles of range. On the other hand, it’s still early to talk about the power output but most reports suggest a dual-motor setup, with the max output that goes between 250 and 300 horsepower.

2024 Honda CR-V Engines

On the other hand, the rest of the lineup should carry on in the same way. The new generation will continue with familiar powertrain options, starting from the 1.5-liter turbo-four, which comes coupled with a CVT gearbox. That engine currently puts out around 190 horsepower and offers pretty good driving dynamics. So, we don’t expect bigger changes in the future.

We also count on a hybrid version. The outgoing model comes with a system that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a couple of electric motors, for a total output of 212 horsepower. We still don’t know if this system is about to carry on unchanged, or we are about to see some upgrades.

Finally, some sources speculate about the plug-in hybrid. Honda already offers such a setup, but not in North America.

2024 Honda CR-V Design

Design-wise, we don’t expect surprises from the 2024 Honda CR-V. It will represent the second production year of the new generation, so the overall layout is about to remain the same. The upcoming redesign will bring a lot of novelties. The company has prepared a new platform, with new chassis and suspension setup, which should ensure even better ride quality, even though the current model is already pretty impressive in this aspect.

Of course, we will see a new exterior design. The 2024 Honda CR-V will come with the new styling but what’s more interesting is that it will grow in size notably. The wheelbase will be notably longer, which will provide more space on the inside. We will get on that in a moment.

Interior

Of course, the upcoming redesign will also bring a completely new interior design and the 2024 Honda CR-V will carry on in the same way. As we’ve just mentioned, one of the biggest benefits will be the bigger size, which will allow more space on the inside. For that reason, it looks like the next generation will come standard with three rows of seats, which will put this crossover in the competition with models like Mitsubishi Outlander and VW Tiguan.

Besides more space, we will also see a completely new cabin design, with a new dashboard. Details are still unavailable but we presume that a lot of inspiration will be taken from the new Civic. We expect the same design approach, with a simple but attractive layout, and lots of tech features.

2024 Honda CR-V Release Date and Price

We presume that the 2024 Honda CR-V will arrive sometime in the last quarter of 2023, with a starting price of around 28.000 dollars. Of course, the key competition will remain the same – Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester etc.
