The new generation of Honda’s mid-size SUV has just been introduced and it impresses in many ways. It looks more aggressive than before and also comes with notable improvements in many ways. We like its refined powertrain, along with great suspension and chassis setup, which ensure a smooth ride and composed handling. Furthermore, the interior feels very luxurious, while the new infotainment system is way more intuitive than before. Does this mean that there is no reason for updates in the next few years? Rumors say no, and suggest novelties already for the next year. Among them, you can find reports about the 2024 Honda Pilot Type R, which would be a high-performance version of the SUV.
At this point, these are just rumors but that doesn’t mean we can’t make our prediction and imaging how this particular version would look like. The first thing that comes to mind is the engine, which would offer more power. Furthermore, we would expect to see some chassis and suspension upgrades, along with exlusive styling details, both outside and inside the vehicle.
2024 Honda Pilot Type R Engine
As we’ve just mentioned, the engine is one of the first things that comes to mind when it comes to 2024 Honda Pilot Type R upgrades. The base Pilot comes with a well-known 3.5-liter V6 that puts out 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. While it offers pretty good overall performance, we would expect something more capable.
Of course, the engine that comes to our minds is the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which already powers the MDX Type S. That engine puts out around 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, though we could see it slightly detuned, just to keep the MDX Type S more exclusive. Of course, the engine would be paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which could also receive some revisions and also bring new drive modes.
2024 Honda Pilot Type R Design
When it comes to the overall design, we presume that things won’t be much different. On the other hand, various mechanical upgrades are expected, starting from the new suspension, which would probably be stiffer and could also bring the Pilot a little bit closer to the ground. Of course, we would also expect bigger brakes, as well as bigger wheels with lower-profile tires.
Besides mechanical upgrades, we presume that the 2024 Honda Pilot Type R would also come with lots of exclusive styling details. Besides the aforementioned wheels, we would also expect to see more aggressive bumpers, new front fascia and similar things. Exclusive color options are possible too.
Interior
We presume that some interior changes would happen as well. This Pilot could get a typical Type R treatment, with a unique color scheme, exclusive materials like aluminum pedals and paddle shifters, and similar things. On the other hand, the overall cabin design would remain the same, with familiar aesthetical solutions and pretty much the same tech features.
One of the possibilities is to see new front seats, sportier and with better side support. Still, the overall seating configuration shouldn’t change and the 2024 Honda Pilot Type R would also bring three rows of seats and be able to accommodate up to eight passengers.
Features
Considering that this will probably be the most expensive Pilot in the lineup, we expect to see nothing less but a very long list of standard equipment. That means that the list of standard equipment should include goodies like a 9-inch touch screen, a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless device charging, an in-car intercom, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, satellite radio, tri-zone automatic climate control etc.
Of course, the list of safety and driver-assistance features should be pretty long too. We would expect to see things like a rearview camera, driver-attention monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sich recognition, automatic high-beams and many more.
2024 Honda Pilot Type R Release Date and Price
If we can trust rumors, the 2024 Honda Pilot Type R could arrive already by the end of this year. If that happens, we presume that the starting price would go somewhere between 55.000 and 60.000 dollars.
