During its 75 years long history, Honda has released some pretty legendary models and the S2000 is definitely among them. The iconic roadster was introduced way back in 1999 and it was in production for a full decade. Unfortunately, we’ve never seen a successor. This could change soon, as some rumors suggest a comeback of the nameplate. Allegedly the Japanese manufacturer is working on a new S2000, which could come already in the next year, as the 2024 Honda S2000.
Although this is just a rumor and there are no details about the possible revival, it’s relatively easy to predict what the new model would look like. Without any doubt, Honda engineers will use the same formula and try to offer an ultimate driving machine one more time. However, some things will have to change, and that particularly refers to the engine, which will probably get forced induction.
2024 Honda S2000 Design
As we’ve just mentioned, if Honda is willing to revive the legendary roadster, there is no doubt it will use the same formula. In other words, we would expect to see a super-light roadster with rear-wheel drive, with the main mission to provide a superior driving experience. As we are talking about an RWD car, it means that the Japanese manufacturer will have to build this vehicle from scratch. Still, some technologies and design solutions from the NSX would be used for sure, just like in the case of the original.
In terms of the styling, we expect a typical convertible layout with clean lines and a very long hood. While the overall shape may look similar to the original, we presume that the company would apply the latest design language of the company, though with a lot of exclusive details as well.
At this point, it’s still early to talk about details. However, we can predict the base cabin layout. Of course, we would like to see a soft roof once again, but the company may offer a hard top as well. Once again, we would see a two-seat configuration, along with a pretty simplistic dashboard design.
The dashboard design was one of the most interesting parts of the original S2000. It was characterized by a simple and super-clean design, completely focused on the driver. We presume that the new 2024 Honda S2000 would be designed in the same fashion, though with the addition of a couple of modern tech features.
2024 Honda S2000 Engine
The engine is one of the most legendary things about the original S2000. Of course, we are talking about a special version of the iconic K20 engine, which is quite powerful. More importantly, it was able to rev all-away up to 9.000 rpm. The engine was paired with one of the most precise manual transmissions we’ve ever seen.
Unfortunately, things will have to be a little bit different in the new 2024 Honda S2000 and that particularly refers to the engine. Simply, we live in the world of turbochargers, so the new roadster will probably come with the same engine as the Civic Type R. We are talking about a 2.0-liter turbo-four with a max output of over 300 horsepower. We expect that a manual transmission will once again be the only choice, along with a rear-wheel-drive setup.
2024 Honda S2000 Release Date and Competition
At this point, the 2024 Honda S2000 is just a rumor and the officials are still quiet about this comeback. On the other hand, rumors suggest that the legendary roadster could come back already in the next year. If this happens, it will compete with the whole plethora of new sports cars, such as Nissan Z, Toyota GR86, Mazda MX-5 etc.
