2025 Honda Accord Is Getting Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain and New Transmission

The all-new, eleventh-generation Honda Accord has just arrived and it looks amazing in so many ways. If anyone doubted, Honda once again came up with the best mid-size sedan on the market, which has so many great things to offer. Does this mean there won’t be bigger novelties in the next few years? Probably not, because the latest reports suggest big updates for the 2025 Honda Accord, which will represent the third production year of the new generation.

At this point, the officials are still quiet but it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is about to bring some big novelties for the third production year. From what we know so far, the company is working on a new powertrain option, as well as a new transmission. Other than that, we presume that the overall design will remain the same, while some minor updates are always possible on the inside, in terms of new features and standard equipment.

2025 Honda Accord New Powertrain Rumored

If you look at the new Accord, there are two powertrain options offered. Base models carried on with a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four, while there is also a new hybrid powertrain, with 204 horsepower. However, the range-topping 2.0-liter turbo-four has been discontinued. For that reason, many believe that Honda is working on a new range-topping powertrain and that it will come with the 2025 Honda Accord. From what we can hear, that could be a plug-in hybrid setup.

That setup would probably be based on a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which would get significant help from two electric motors, for a combined output that could easily go over 300 horsepower. What’s also important to say is that the company is, allegedly, also working on a new transmission. Most likely, that would be a 10-speed automatic, which would be used for the new PHEV model, as well as the base 1.5-liter turbo-four.

2025 Honda Accord Engines

Besides the new plug-in hybrid, the 2025 Honda Accord would carry on with two familiar powertrain options. Therefore, bas models would continue with a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. This version offers pretty decent overall performance, while we also like pretty good fuel economy, which goes around 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. As we’ve just mentioned, the CVT could easily be replaced with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

The hybrid version would also continue in the same way, with the new system that combines a familiar 2.0-liter inline-four with two electric motors, for a total output of 204 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. Besides solid performance, this system also offers a pretty impressive fuel economy that goes around 51 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the highway.

Design

The 2025 Honda Accord will represent the third production year of the new generation and therefore, we are pretty sure it won’t feature more important changes. Instead, we expect to see a familiar design, which now looks more elegant than before. Of course, we won’t exclude the possibility to see minor updates, such as new color options or maybe even a new appearance package.

The mechanical aspect certainly won’t change and the Accord will continue to deliver a pretty impressive driving experience, which balances very well between comfort and athleticism. This sedan is easy to drive and highly maneuverable, with the driving engagement you can’t get from rivals like Camry.

Interior

Once again, the 2024 Honda Accord will come too soon for a major refresh. So, we expect to see the same cabin design, which is highlighted by a new dashboard design, which looks similar to the new Civic and just brings even nicer materials and more tech features. The cabin looks elegant and well-built, while we also like things like the standard digital instrument cluster.

In terms of size, this is the largest Accord we’ve seen so far, so it’s no wonder that the offer of passenger space is very generous. Both rows accommodate adults in such a nice fashion, while we also like the driving position very much. Besides a lot of passenger space, there is also a pretty generous offer of cargo space, considering that there are around 16.5 cubic feet of trunk space.

2025 Honda Accord Release Date and Price

Considering the possible powertrain updates, the 2025 Honda Accord might arrive a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of the year. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 28.000 dollars.
