2023 Honda Civic e:HEV: What We Know So Far

After the last year’s redesign, Honda is about to bring another important novelty to its popular compact car. We are about to see a version with a hybrid powertrain, which will come as the 2023 Honda Civic e:HEV. That model will come as a replacement for the outgoing Honda Insight and it will feature a new powertrain, more capable and more efficient. On the other hand, the rest of the design shouldn’t be much different compared to standard, gasoline-powered Civic models.

Therefore, you may count on a familiar design, which made this compact car one of the best in class. It will bring additional efficiency to things like sporty handling, nice interior design, spacious seats and cargo area, etc. From what we know so far, this model will be offered across the range, in various trim levels.

The 2023 Honda Civic e:HEV will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Honda Civic e:HEV Powertrain

Of course, the most important novelty for the next year’s Civic will be the new hybrid powertrain. The Japanese manufacturer has developed a new system for the 2023 Honda Civic e:HEV, which will be based on a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, with 41% of thermal efficiency. This engine will come coupled with a couple of electric motors. So, the combined output will go around 181 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. For comparison, the outgoing Insight features a system based on a 1.5-liter engine, with a max output of 151 horsepower.

The engine will come paired with a CVT transmission, which will send power to the front wheels. We still don’t know the battery capacity, but we have no doubt it will be pretty small, with the ability to provide just a few miles of the all-electric range. After all, we are talking about the classic, self-charging hybrid powertrain.

2023 Honda Civic e:HEV Design

Other than the new hybrid powertrain, the next year’s Civic won’t feature any bigger change. The 2023 Honda Civic e:HEV will be part of the second production year. So, it’s pretty obvious that the overall design will remain the same. The 11th generation Civic rides on a new platform and brings an even better driving experience than before. Just like the gasoline model, the 2023 Honda Civic e:HEV should be offered both in hatchback and sedan body styles.

Although there is a chance to see a couple of exclusive styling details, which would accentuate the model’s hybrid nature, the overall exterior design won’t look much different. We are about to see familiar aesthetics, which are more mature than before. The new generation doesn’t feel overdesigned anymore but rather features smooth and clean lines.

Interior

Once again, things won’t be much different compared to the standard gasoline model. Of course, the instrument cluster might be slightly modified but other than that, you may count on a familiar layout, which brings a dashboard that looks very nice. It combines classic and retro design solutions with modern tech features and that combination looks very nice. Also, the materials and the build quality are at a pretty high level.

2023 Honda Civic Hatchback Interior

This is one of the biggest models in the class and, therefore, it’s no wonder that the amount of passenger space is pretty generous. Both rows offer plenty of legroom, while headroom is at a pretty high level as well.

For the same reason, the cargo area offers some pretty impressive numbers. The sedan version offers around 15 cubic feet, which is rather typical for a car like this. On the other hand, the hatchback is good for 24.5 cubic feet, which is pretty impressive for a compact car.

Features

As we already mentioned, the 2023 Honda Civic e:HEV should be offered in various trim levels. So we presume that the list of standard and available features will be pretty similar to the gasoline model. Therefore, base models should come standard with goodies like climate control, a 7-inch digital instrument display, a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, a USB port, and a four-speaker stereo. Additionally, you should be able to get upgrades like a 9-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless device charging, an additional front USB port, two rear USB ports, navigation, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, satellite radio, HD Radio, voice recognition, an eight-speaker stereo, a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo, proximity keyless entry, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, a universal garage door opener, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams etc.
