2024 Acura ZDX

2024 Acura ZDX: Acura’s First Electric SUV

More than a decade ago, Acura came with the most radical design in the brand’s history, with a model called ZDX. The futuristic coupe crossover came with impressive lines and a 300-hp engine but it didn’t stay in production for too long. It was discontinued already in 2013 and from today’s perspective, it’s clear that this model was way ahead of its time. Thankfully, the new ZDX will come, already in the next year, as the 2024 Acura ZDX.

If we can judge by the original, the new iteration will also feature a radical design. However, it will come with one significant difference, with an all-electric drivetrain. This will be the brand’s first all-electric SUV and it is expected to offer pretty impressive performance. Moreover, the company also works on a high-performance version, which will come with the famous Type S badge.

We expect to see the production version by the end of next year.

2024 Acura ZDX Design

Although with a familiar nameplate, the 2024 Acura ZDX will be a brand-new model. It will be the brand’s first all-electric crossover and, as you may presume, it will share a lot with Honda’s upcoming EV called Prologue. The two models will be similarly sized and should share the same battery technology, borrowed from GM.

On the other hand, the ZDX will stand out with a pretty radical exterior design, which should take a lot of inspiration from the Precision concept. The recent concept featured pretty impressive styling, characterized by super-futuristic aesthetics that include razor-sharp lines, in a typical Acura manner. Furthermore, the illumination also looks extremely futuristic, especially on the grille cove and in the lower fascia.

The test mule has already been spotted and despite the full cover, it looks like it features the same overall shape as the concept. This means that it won’t feature such a radical rear-end design as the previous ZDX. Instead, it will feature just a bit of a sloping roof, while there will still be enough room in the second row and a decent cargo area.

Interior

As we already mentioned, the test mule has been spotted on the track and spy photographers didn’t manage to catch much of the interior. The only thing we saw is a pretty interesting infotainment system, which includes a rotary know in the center of the massive screen, so we have no doubt Acura will offer an interesting solution again.

The rest of the cabin is still a mystery but we have no doubt that it will look a little bit less conventional than the Precision concept, which came with a hyper-futuristic design, F1-like steering wheel etc. Also, we presume the company could use a lot of recycled materials, just like it did in the concept.

2024 Acura ZDX Drivetrain and Performance

At this point, we know for sure that the new 2024 Acura ZDX will use GM’s Ultium battery technology. The exact numbers are yet to be announced but it’s worth mentioning that this technology supports batteries in a wide range, between 50 and 200kW. We estimate that the base version would be able to make around 250 miles on a single charge, while “long-range” models would feature bigger batteries and a range of over 300 miles.

In any case, we expect to see two variants on offer. Base models will feature a dual-motor setup, though the exact output is still unknown. We estimate that the max output would go around 300 horsepower. The company also confirmed a high-performance version, with the famous Type S badge, which will probably feature around 500 horsepower. More details should come in the following months.

2024 Acura ZDX Release Date and Price

We expect that the base 2024 Acura ZDX could arrive already by the end of 2023, while the Type S should come sometime in 2024. When it comes to the price, base models should go around $50.000, while the Type S should go around $70.000.
