2024 Honda Prologue SUV, Pictures, Price

The process of electrification in the automotive industry is in a full swing and it seemed at first that Honda is a little bit late in the game. However, things are changing and it looks like the whole lineup is on the way. From what we know so far, the 2024 Honda Prologue will be the first model to come, at least in North America. Moreover, it will be built in North America, in GM’s factory, according to the latest reports.

Still, keep in mind that this won’t be the first EV from this Japanese manufacturer. Honda has a long tradition in making electric cars, as there were already several models produced, starting from the Honda EV way back in 1997. Currently, the Japanese manufacturer offers a model called Honda E in Europe.

The 2024 Honda Prologue will arrive next year and considering the current trends in the automotive industry, it’s not a surprise that it will be a crossover. At this point, we still don’t have the official confirmation, but we expect it will be a compact crossover, similarly-sized to the CR-V.

2024 Honda Prologue Platform

So far, Honda has been one of the rare birds in the automotive industry. Unlike most other carmakers, it didn’t share technology with other companies. Instead, it has been relying on its resources. However, things aren’t that simple when it comes to electrification, so even this manufacturer will have to borrow something from other carmakers. More precisely, it will use some tech and design solutions from GM.

Not so long ago, some sources were suggesting that Honda would use a complete EV platform from General Motors. It looks like that won’t happen. The latest reports suggest that only the battery technology will be borrowed. Of course, we are talking about the Ultium battery technology, which will find its place in all GM models in the future. Among other features, it supports a battery capacity of up to 200 kWh and all kinds of fast-charging options.

On the other hand, the rest of the design will be done by Honda. This includes various things, including chassis, electric motors, and other technologies. Of course, thing also includes the integration of the latest driver-assist and safety systems, which have always had a special place in Honda’s design philosophy.

2024 Honda Prologue Design

When it comes to base design characteristics, we know for sure that the 2024 Honda Prologue will be a crossover. Of course, we expect it will compete in the most popular segment, compact crossovers. Therefore, we expect that dimensions will be similar to the new CR-V, which is about to come completely redesigned for the next year.

On the other hand, thinks about the styling are still pretty unclear. On one hand, Honda has introduced the new design language with the new HR-V but on the other, we have no doubt that the electrified lineup would look notably different. We don’t expect to see a unique design as in the case of Honda e, but a respectable dose of unique aesthetical solutions seems like a certain thing.

Interior

At this point, the cabin design is still a mystery. Still, we can speculate about some of the most basic things, starting from the fact that we expect to see a lot of passenger room. Due to the all-electric nature, we expect more room than in comparably sized ICE SUVs. In practice, this means that we expect to see plenty of passenger room, where there is enough space for the third row as well. Still, base versions will probably come with two rows and a high level of comfort. The cargo area should offer respectable volume as well.

On the other hand, we don’t know how the dashboard is about to look. We presume that the Japanese manufacturer would use the same or similar approach as in the latest ICE models, such as the new Civic. In other words, we expect to see a simplistic layout, with a couple of retro elements. Of course, this would be complemented with a full load of tech features, starting from the massive instrument and infotainment screens.

Of course, we count on a full load of standard and available features, whether it’s about technology or convenience.

2024 Honda Prologue Powertrain and Battery

As we already mentioned, the 2024 Honda Prologue is about to use GM’s Ultium battery technology. The exact capacity is still a mystery, but we know that this technology supports up to 200 kWh in capacity. The battery will be positioned under the floor, so the passenger space won’t be compromised.

This technology also supports up to 800 V voltage and 200 kWh battery energy content, up to 350 kW fast charging rate. At this point, it’s early to talk about the battery capacity, but we expect to see something like 300 miles on a single charge. Anything less than that would be considered as some kind of disappointment.

On the other hand, it’s still unclear whether Honda is about to use GM’s electric motors or develop its own. In any case, we expect that both 2WD and AWD versions will be offered.

2024 Honda Prologue Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Honda Prologue will hit the market by the end of the next year. Most likely, it will be produced at the GM factory in Spring Hill, Tennessee, alongside Cadillac Lyriq and other EV models from General motors. The base price should go around 40.000 dollars and the company estimates that it will be able to sell 70.000 units annually.

When it comes to the competition, there are so many all-electric crossovers on the way. We presume that one of the key rivals could be the VW ID.4, while other models that come to mind are Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, etc. Still, keep in mind that things are happening pretty fast in this segment. So, many things could change by the time the 2024 Honda Prologue hits the market.

Luxury Relative From Acura

If you look at Honda’s current lineup, pretty much every model has its luxury iteration, with the “Acura” badge. So, we presume that the same trend will be followed in the EV lineup as well. We are already getting reports that Honda’s luxury division is also working on its EV SUV, which would be compact. Logically, this indicates that most of the parts would be the same as in the Prologue.

Still, Acura’s model would be superior in many aspects. Of course, it would be more luxurious and better equipped. We also expect to see a more capable powertrain setup, with more power and maybe even a better range. Logically, this model will also cost more, with the starting price of $50.000, at least.
