2024 Acura RDX Electric: Rumors and Expectations

In the last couple of months, most news about Acura was about electrification. We’ve seen various reports about the new all-electric models. First, there was the ZDX, while we can also read about the smaller ADX these days. Moreover, some sources even speculate about the 2024 Acura RDX Electric, though we don’t believe such a scenario to be particularly likely, especially if we consider that the ICE RDX marks good sales numbers and that the current generation still has a couple of years before it receives a complete overhaul.

Therefore, we have no doubt that the 2024 RDX will continue mostly in the same way. When it comes to the all-electric RDX, we would rather talk about the ZDX, which will be the brand’s first all-electric SUV, with dimensions that are similar to the RDX. So, things are pretty easy to understand here, as the ZDX will be the all-electric RDX.

So, what we have just said is that all potential buyers who are waiting for the 2024 Acura RDX Electric will get a similarly-sized model but with a different nameplate. That model will come as the ZDX and it will be the brand’s first all-electric SUV. It will share a lot of parts with the Honda Prologue, which will be a more mainstream iteration of this design. The two models will share the chassis and a lot of mechanics, while the styling will be completely different, as well as the interior design, which will be much more luxurious in this case. The styling should take a lot of inspiration from the recent Precision concept, which has shown the direction in which the future Acura models will go.

On the other hand, things under the skin will be pretty similar to the Prologue. As you probably know, the Japanese carmaker is still working on its own technology for all-electric vehicles, so the initial models will use technology borrowed from GM. The 2024 Acura RDX Electric, or ZDX, will be the first tone with the Acura badge. It will ride on the BEV3 platform and feature GM’s advanced Ultium battery technology, which promises great performance in all aspects.

Interior

When it comes to interior design, it is still early to talk about details. Unlike the exterior, the interior probably won’t draw too much inspiration from the Precision concept. Simply, that vehicle came with a super-futuristic design that probably won’t find too much practical use. Instead, the 2024 Acura RDX Electric will rather feature a much more toned-down design, with a more conventional dashboard design etc. Still, we expect that Acura will follow the trends of the automotive industry and offer a design that’s typical for today’s electric cars. That means a minimalistic design with a massive center screen and almost no physical controls.

This model should feature similar dimensions to the ICE RDX. Therefore, we may expect to see a similar amount of passenger space. That would mean a couple of spacious and comfortable rows of seats, which both accommodate adults with ease.

2024 Acura RDX Electric Drivetrain and Battery

As we already mentioned, the 2024 Acura RDX Electric will feature Ultium battery technology, with a 350kW charging speed. In practice, this means impressive charging speeds, where the DC charger would be able to add 100 miles of range in 10 to 20 minutes. Speaking of the range, we estimate that the ZDX will feature a battery pack large enough to provide up to 300 miles on a single charge.

When it comes to the drivetrain, most sources suggest a dual-motor setup and all-wheel drive, with a max output of 340 horsepower. Allegedly, the Japanese manufacturer also preparing a Type S version, which would feature more capable electric motors and a max output that could go all away up to 500 horsepower.

  1. With the SUV/CUV maxed out and consumers turning back to regal sedan vehicles, why not some imagination by Acura and others. In the Category, and forgetting Electric for the moment, why not have a design oriented piece to share the space with MDX and RDX, which as with 99% of the offerings are boxes on wheels, squared off in the back as if everyone will need to transport a Refridgerator. Why not offer Style as an RDX-Sportback, not unlike Audi’s Q-4, Q-5, Q-6, where they’re alternatives to the Coach based on need and purpose. See too, Infiniti Q-55, BMW-X4, hopefully a Mazda Koeru, even Genesis in it’s G70 in an alternative to the Coupe as the ‘Steering Break’, effectively a Sport Back.
