2024 Honda CR-V Type R: More Than Rumor

Honda has just launched the new generation of its super-popular compact crossover. Just like the previous generation, the new model was instantly recognized as one of the class leaders, due to many qualities. The new SUV offers a practical and spacious cabin, a versatile overall design and a very efficient powertrain. Furthermore, even the aesthetics are at a much higher level than before. However, even among class leaders, this SUV still lacks the driving experience of some rivals, particularly the new CX-50. That’s why we can hear rumors about the 2024 Honda CR-V Type R, which would bring everything to the next level.

With this version, the Japanese manufacturer will go full throttle. We would expect to see upgrades in various aspects. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the powertrain, which would include much more power than the standard version. Furthermore, we would expect suspension upgrades, as well as all kinds of visual enhancements.

We presume that the 2024 Honda CR-V Type R would arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Honda CR-V Type R Design

The 2024 Honda CR-V Type R would represent the high performance of the popular compact crossover. Of course, this model would be heavily based on the standard model, which has been redesigned recently. We would expect to see all kinds of upgrades, starting from the new chassis, which could borrow some components from the new Civic Type R. Besides chassis upgrades, we would expect to see bigger brakes and further chassis reinforcements.

Besides mechanical upgrades, we expect that the CR-V Type R would also come with a lot of aesthetic upgrades, which will accentuate the model’s performance nature. That refers to things like new wheels, with lower-profile tires, more aggressive bumpers and similar things.

Of course, the cabin would also come with typical Type R upgrades. Compared to the standard version, that would mean a couple of modifications, starting from new seats, steering wheel, instrument cluster and, of course, the famous red color scheme.

On the other hand, the overall layout would remain the same. The new generation features a pretty stylish dashboard design. Besides nice aesthetics, the compact SUV also features good overall build quality and very nice materials. Traditionally, the CR-V is among the most spacious models in the class and the 2024 Honda CR-V Type R shouldn’t bring any bigger changes in this aspect. There are two very spacious and comfortable rows of seats, along with a pretty generous cargo area.

2024 Honda CR-V Type R Engine

Naturally, the most important upgrade would be the engine. Currently, the CR-V is available in two variants. One of them is a 1.5-liter turbo-four with 190 horsepower, while the other one is a hybrid, with 212 horsepower. Both units are great in many ways but the 2024 Honda CR-V Type R would require something much more powerful.

Considering that the CR-V shares a lot of parts with the Civic, the most probable scenario is to see the same engine as in the Civic Type R. That would mean a turbocharged version of the good old K20 engine, which would offer a max output of 320 horsepower, which would ensure excellent performance. Unlike the super-capable hot hatch, the CR-V Type R would rather come with all-wheel drive, though it would probably carry on with the good-old 6-speed manual gearbox.

On the other hand, we can also hear rumors about the hybrid powertrain, in which case the main competitor would be models like Toyota RAV4 Prime.
